Relaxation is one of the most important practices to learn for our mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing. Taking time for regular bouts of deep rest helps you to hone your body’s ability to adapt its automatic stress response to an appropriate level for the actual circumstances you are facing.

This monthly Essential Rest class consists of two practices proven effective in calming the nervous system and brings deep rest to body and mind.

Brackley Classes are held on the first Sunday of the month

Restorative Yoga evokes the parasympathetic nervous system, it’s all about slowing down and opening your body through passive stretching with specific poses stimulating what needs to be stimulated and calming what needs to be calmed.

iRest Yoga Nidra iRest is a research-based, trauma-sensitive meditation, relaxation, and healing protocol that deeply calms the nervous system, supports the integration of negative emotions and thoughts, and helps to build resilience with everyday challenge

What to expect

Each class will be consist of a series of poses which are carried out on the floor. Here your body will be supported with blankets, pillows, bricks and bolsters allowing you hold poses for longer periods of time. With the props supporting your body rather than your muscles you’ll find it absolutely natural to relax and to switch off.

You may only do four or five poses over the course of an entire class. You’ll focus on your breath throughout the class although you’ll also hear music and guidance to relax yet deeper.
When your body has settled your mind will be guided to rest with iRest Yoga Nidra, a deeply healing Mindfulness and Somatic healing practice.

At the end of the session your mind feels relaxed, as if it has powered down, your body feels open and refreshed.

Who is it for?

Absolutely anyone. Whether you want to de-stress or just experience a delightful ninety minutes of deep rest and relaxation this monthly class is suitable for you.

If you have difficulty getting down onto the floor and up again you may prefer to try our weekly Mindfulness and Meditation classes which are practiced seated in chairs.

What you’ll need to bring

  • it’s best to wear loose clothing in which you can sit move comfortably onto the floor

  • a bottle of water to rehydrate after class
